You may find yourself often taking on the energy, emotions or moods of others and find it difficult to distinguish between what is yours and what is someone else's. Five tips to protect your energy and recharge!
1. Check in with yourself.
Perhaps the most important thing, before you leave the house, check in with yourself. How does my own energy feel today? When you want to know if you are taking something over from someone else, it is incredibly important to (learn to) know your own energy. How else can you know if you have taken something over?
You can check in with yourself every morning by briefly sitting with your eyes closed, placing one hand on your heart and the other on your belly. Breathe in and out deeply a few times and ask yourself "how am I feeling today?" Perhaps an emotion will come up or it is mainly a thought, for example: "Tired, good, grumpy, happy or sad".
Do you have even less time? Then ask yourself when you are having breakfast or just before you leave the house. This way you have a direction of how you feel before you meet other people. You can do this several times during the day, for example just before you go into a meeting or conversation. This way you get to know your own energy better and better. What gives you energy and what doesn't?
2. Using the element of water
Have you had a busy day and seen a lot of people? Then take a shower when you get home and energetically clean yourself. Visualize or feel all the energy that no longer serves you being washed away down the drain.
3. Grounding Meditation
The more grounded you are, the more you can be present in your own energy. That is why it is advisable to ground yourself. You can do this by going to the forest, but also by doing a grounding meditation at the end or beginning of the day. This takes a little more time, but is very nice if you quickly take on emotions and moods of others.
4. Smudging
With smudging you cleanse your energetic field. You can use native herbs for this such as mugwort, rosemary and oregano. If you don't have this at home, use an incense stick.
5. Visualize Bubble
This works well if you notice that your energy is leaking in a conversation. You can then visualize that there is a bubble or protective white light moving around you, which protects your energy field. This takes some practice at first, but once you finally know how it works, you can apply this in no time in conversations in which you notice that you are being drained.
